With the colder months about to draw in, now is a good time to make sure your boiler is ready to face the season ahead.

During winter, heating systems are pushed to their limits and small issues can quickly turn into chilly emergencies. A quick service or check-up now could save you from an unexpected breakdown when you need your heating the most.

Here are a few early warning signs that your boiler might need attention before winter hits:

1. Strange noises

If your boiler starts gurgling, banging or whistling, it’s worth checking out. These sounds could mean air in the system, low water pressure or limescale buildup.

2. Uneven heating

Do some rooms feel colder than others, or does your radiator take ages to warm up? That could point to circulation issues or an ageing boiler that’s losing efficiency.

3. Frequent pressure drops

If you’re regularly having to top up your boiler pressure, there might be a leak or a faulty valve that needs looking at.

4. Pilot light problems

A pilot light that keeps going out or burns yellow instead of blue could signal incomplete combustion. This potential safety issue needs immediate attention.

5. Don’t wait for a winter breakdown

Every year, we get a spike in call-outs once temperatures drop and many of those breakdowns could have been avoided with a pre-winter check. By booking early, you’ll beat the rush and keep your home cosy this winter.

6. Time for a new boiler?

During winter, we install two to three new boilers every week, compared to around one a week during the rest of the year! So if your boiler is more than 15 years old, or if it’s becoming unreliable despite regular maintenance, now is a good time to call us and find out whether it needs replacing with a new energy-efficient boiler.

Our experienced Trading Standards Approved team will let you know whether it’s needed and if so, can recommend and fit the right model for your home.
